Blog Day: 2006

Well, every day is kind of a Blog Day at this site, since my raison d’être is to connect & share info about & with bloggers, and non-bloggers (can’t forget them), all around the world. So, if a few months pass and you wish it was Blog Day, just click yourself back on over to imagined-community.

So why would a gal living in Boston, USA be blogging? Read on…

Why did you start blogging?

Because I was driving the people around me nuts! (I needed a place to share my interest in all things and especially things related to globalization — and to park my intensity.)

What do you blog about mainly?

Culture (such a nice vague word), with a dash of politics and do-goodery.

Do you blog in your first language or in another language, and why?

Yes, I blog in my first language — English — because I can write readable sentences in my first language. However, it is not my only language, and I hope to both write and recruit readers to write and contribute blog entries in other languages in the future.

What motivates you to keep blogging even if (like most bloggers) you’re not paid much for it?

Can you say Addiction?

Is your audience mainly inside your own country or around the world?

All over, but mostly from the US (thanks friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers : ).

What do your family and friends think about the fact that you are a blogger?

They think I should spend less time online and more time trying to find a husband.

And now…my blog suggestions for 2006. Some of these are new blogs, some are not (but old friends are still gold). Yes, some of them are already in my blogroll, which means I am breaking the rules. But, since my blog is so young, and I know that not many people have visited my blogroll, I decided to go ahead and include them. Let the parade begin…

  • Buenos Aires Daily.
A french gal living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. An eye catching photo blog with funny, informative commentary in both English & French.
  • Fusion View.
A truly cross-cultural blog on writing and a whole lot more. This UK blog written by Yang-May Ooi offers up original podcasts (such as an interview with Iranian and Welsh film student Mahdi Mozaffari), musings on food & drink, and advice for getting published in the hardcopy world.
  • La Frog.
A french gal living in Los Angeles, USA. Wonderful photos and interesting commentary on Los Angeles and US culture as seen through the eyes of an expat.
  • Vietnamese God.
Not a brand new blog, but a wonderful blog. There are so few English blogs by anyone in Vietnam, let alone by a Vietnamese God ; ) Visit.
  • Whirled View.
GREAT global coverage. Sharp analysis with topics ranging from the environment to public diplomacy from Patricia Kushlis, Cheryl Rofer, and Patricia Lee Sharpe.

#43.

The Boston skyline doesn’t rate as one of the top 10 skylines of the world, which according to Luigi Di Serio at diserio.com are:

  1. Hong Kong, China
  2. Chicago, USA
  3. New York, USA
  4. Shanghai, China
  5. Tokyo, Japan
  6. Singapore
  7. Toronto, Canada
  8. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
  9. Shenzhen, China
  10. Seoul, South Korea

Still, the Boston skyline has its charms. (A more scientific ranking of skylines can be found here. Di Serio ranked Boston #27, Ramsbergen and Kazmierczak ranked Boston #43.)

The above photo was taken from the water taxi stop at Logan Airport. I was surprised to learn that many Bostonians don’t know that you can catch a water taxi at the airport for $10 one way, or $17 round trip. Perhaps not the most convenient way to get downtown if you need to go somewhere else (the nearest T stop is Aquarium, near Long Wharf), but it’s a quick ride (about 7 minutes ) and fun!

Urban Tribe.

Ah Sunday. It’s raining; a good day for some moody, Balkan, jazz, rock fusion. Here is something from Croatian actor, poet, musician Darko Rundek, and his Paris based ensemble Cargo Orkestar. “Ista Slika” is from the CD Ruke, which came out in 2004. Rundek’s new CD is Mhm A-ha Oh Yeah Da-da. Enjoy!
