Music Monday - Zero 7
Today’s chilly, grey, misty weather reminded me of a summer spent in Glasgow (weather changes affect me like Proust’s madeleine). From walking the streets of Glasgow I drifted back into the present and over to thoughts of my friend Mindy’s upcoming voyage to a new life in Edinburgh (ok, the word “voyage” does have a compelling charm that belies all the work that goes into moving — selling the house, microchipping the dogs. But just stay with the romance for a moment). So many positive and the negative reactions. My mind is a percolating maze of contradictions. What will Mindy’s flat look like! Little Alice can go to the Royal Commonwealth Pool! I won’t be able to call Mindy whenever I want. But when I call she will be in some Scottish place like Nor Loch or the Palace of Holyroodhouse! I am going to have to win the lottery to afford all these flights to Scotland. Maybe Paul (her husband) can set me up with some cute Scottish guy who is, in fact, Ewan McGregor.
In this pensive, Scotland musing mindset, I started listening to Pandora and found again Zero 7’s “Home,” from When it Falls. Although the UK’s Zero 7 can be hit or miss, I still like them a lot (I posted End Theme previously) and the lovely “Home” is a nice complement to my mood. Someone at Youtube claims “Home” musically reworks Jefferson Airplane’s “Triad” (the lyrics are totally different). But I can’t decide if “Triad” and “Home” just share a chord sequence or if the similarities are deeper than that. It’s well worth the listen.
Mindy, this is for you and your new home.

I really like Zero 7 too! I actually just did a Music Meme and they are on the list.
